Euro 2012 begins today and it really has snuck up on us. It seems that this Championship is set to drift by. I have no sense of anticipation; I don’t feel the buzz. Our office hasn’t even bothered to organise a sweepstake!

Maybe everyone has their eye on the Olympics or has been blindsided by the Jubilee. Or maybe it’s because the English national team and the FA is such a shambles.

Whatever the reason, maybe we should start taking an interest. This could just be one of the most exciting tournaments for a while. All the major teams are on an even keel, Germany are in a group of death with the potential to get knocked out in the group stages (highly unlikely, I know), the matches fit in nicely around an after work beer and seeing as our expectations are so low, England might just exceed them.
